The idea for this blog came about very shortly after I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, in September of 2015. I was 40 years old and was shocked (but not) to find out that an adult could be diagnosed with type 1 (for us adults it’s often referred to as diabetes 1.5 or sometimes LADA… but more about that later). I started reading everything I could that was related to the topic. I already had a fair amount of experience with diabetes in my life – my dad has type 1 (juvenile onset), and I’m also trained as a LPN.
I was, and still am, very open about sharing my story with family and friends, realizing that I can educate and answer as many questions as possible. So now I am writing and sharing all of this with you in hopes that maybe it helps someone else out there. There are a few pages here with general information but I also really wanted to share what things are like on a day to day basis, which you will see in the journal posts.
(Note: Sentences like this in the daily journal posts, in italic and in parentheses, have been added after the original journal post to explain what else was going on in my life.)
Remember, you are not alone. It is OK to feel overwhelmed and angry.
And it is also OK to celebrate even the smallest victories in your own or your loved-one’s journey with diabetes.
Welcome and enjoy!
